We are scaling our engineering team and looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to become the very first member of our new Banking Team in Portugal – a team dedicated to our open banking platform and close collaboration with partner banks. In this role, you’ll not only shape the future of our bank integrations but also lay the foundation for a function that you’ll help build from the ground up.
At Gimi, we’ve already partnered with leading banks such as Nordea, ABN AMRO, and ICA Banken, and our platform powers financial education for the next generation. Now, we’re taking the next step – building resilience, scalability, and new integrations into our platform – and we want you to be part of it.
This is a unique opportunity where you’ll look back knowing you played a defining role in scaling Gimi’s core open banking platform.
Your Responsibilities
- Take a leading role in scaling Gimi’s open banking platform and expanding our network of financial institutions.
- Be the first member of the Banking Team, setting the technical foundation for a function that will grow with you.
- Design, develop, and maintain new API integrations with open banking and financial partners.
- Drive the evolution of our platform by implementing robust observability and resiliency strategies.
- Proactively improve the stability, performance, and success rate of existing bank connections.
- Collaborate closely with the product team and external partners to deliver new and enhanced features.
- Design and implement integrations beyond open banking, including future deep integrations with other external systems and partners.
What We’re Looking For
- 8+ years of professional experience in software development.
- Proven professional experience working with financial systems, services, or in FinTech.
- Strong proficiency in Python and the Django framework.
- Hands-on experience with AWS and CI/CD pipelines.
- Expertise in relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL).
- Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs.
- Excellent communication skills in English (the only language requirement).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
Nice to have: Prior experience with Open Banking APIs and standards (e.g., PSD2).

Location & Ways of Working
This role is remote-first to begin with, giving you full flexibility to work from anywhere in Portugal. Over time, we plan to build a local office hub in Lisbon, and when that happens, we’ll introduce a hybrid policy with a few days of in-office collaboration per week.
Why Join Gimi?
At Gimi, we are on a mission to equip the next generation with Financial Superskills®. You’ll join a close-knit startup team where you’ll directly shape the future of our product and revolutionize how banks engage with young people.
Just as important as what we build is how we work: we celebrate successes together, learn from challenges without blame, and believe the best ideas come when everyone contributes.
Our culture is flat, inclusive, and innovation-driven. We offer benefits that match or exceed startup standards (yes, including pension, education budget, and 30 vacation days annually).
Sounds interesting?
If you’re excited to help shape the future of financial literacy and think you have what it takes to build and grow impactful technology at Gimi, we’d love to hear from you! Interviews will be held on a rolling basis. Don’t wait to submit your application! (No need to send us a CV – your LinkedIn profile and answers to the application questions are more than enough.)
